Black Ivory Coffee is one of the most expensive and exclusive coffees in the world, priced at around $2,000 per kilogram. Produced in Thailand, the coffee is made using a unique process where Thai Arabica coffee cherries are consumed by elephants and naturally fermented in their digestive systems. After the elephants excrete the beans, they are carefully collected, cleaned, and roasted. The process enhances the coffee’s flavor profile, reducing bitterness and adding unique, smooth, and earthy notes. Each kilogram of coffee requires approximately 33 kilograms of raw coffee cherries due to losses during digestion, chewing, or dispersion in the environment. This rarity contributes to its high cost and limited production, with only about 215 kilograms produced annually. Black Ivory Coffee is primarily sold in luxury hotels and online, fetching prices of up to $50 per cup .
